US-based Amneal Pharmaceuticals has substantially expanded its presence in India, integrating new capabilities in biosimilars and complex medicines following its strategic acquisition of Kashiv BioSciences. Completed in August 2026, the acquisition merges Kashiv's robust biologics research, development, and manufacturing expertise with Amneal's established commercial and production scale.
This integration positions Amneal to significantly grow its biosimilars business, with the company projecting more than 12 commercial biosimilars and over 20 additional products in its pipeline by 2030. The firm aims for multiple biosimilar launches annually, transforming this segment into a major growth driver, especially as over $300 billion worth of global biologics are set to lose exclusivity in the coming decade.
Amneal's Deep Roots and Future Vision in India
India is a cornerstone of Amneal's global network, having seen investments exceeding $300 million over the past 15 years. The company currently employs over 5,500 individuals across eight FDA-approved manufacturing and R&D facilities located in Ahmedabad, Dahej, Vizag, and Hyderabad. These operations cover a wide range of products, including oral solids, injectables, APIs, and oncology treatments.
The Kashiv acquisition further strengthens this footprint by adding dedicated biosimilar R&D and manufacturing facilities in both the US and India, enhancing Amneal’s integrated biosimilars platform. Dr. Parva Purohit, Senior Vice President and Head R&D at Amneal Pharmaceuticals, emphasized the strategic importance of this expansion.

Expanding Beyond Generics: Peptides and Complex Medicines
Amneal’s expansion in India extends beyond biosimilars into other complex medicines, including peptides. The company is actively developing new peptide manufacturing facilities in Gujarat, with a drug substance facility in Dahej and both drug product and drug substance facilities in Bavla. Its existing API facilities in Dahej, Rajoda, and Vizag underpin this growth.
The company also recognizes the broader role India plays in the biopharmaceutical ecosystem. Amneal highlights the importance of R&D investment, innovation capital, advanced research infrastructure, and strong industry-academia collaborations. Workforce development is also a critical focus as the pharmaceutical sector becomes increasingly sophisticated.
Rahul Maitra, Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Amneal Pharmaceuticals, underscored this need.
