An Air India passenger's discovery of a brain teaser on a cutlery wrapper at 35,000 feet has captivated social media. The numerical puzzle, which decodes to reveal the name of aviation pioneer J.R.D. Tata, challenges users to solve it without online help.

An Air India passenger's in-flight tea break turned into an unexpected viral sensation after they shared a challenging brain teaser found on a cutlery wrapper. The puzzle, encountered at 35,000 feet, quickly spread across social media, inviting users to decode a numerical sequence that conceals the name of a significant figure in Indian aviation history.

The Viral Puzzle Takes Flight

Ritesh G, posting as @RizGandotra on X (formerly Twitter), shared a photograph of the Air India cutlery wrapper alongside his cup of tea on October 26. His post challenged followers to crack the code without resorting to online searches, adding, "Nice touch, @airindia. Well done!" The post quickly garnered attention, turning a simple in-flight moment into an engaging online guessing game.

Decoding the Air India Brain Teaser

The code printed on the wrapper reads: 10 27 18 27 27 4 20-1-20-1. While initially appearing random, the solution relies on a straightforward substitution method. Each letter of the English alphabet is assigned a corresponding number, where 'A' is 1, 'B' is 2, and so on, up to 'Z' as 26. The number 27 serves as a separator, indicating a full stop between initials.

By applying this logic, the sequence decodes to: J.R.D. Tata.

J.R.D. Tata: An Aviation Pioneer

The choice of J.R.D. Tata for the puzzle is particularly fitting given his profound connection to Air India. Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata was a pioneering industrialist who founded Tata Airlines in 1932, which later evolved into Air India. His instrumental role in developing India's civil aviation sector left an indelible mark on the industry.

Air India transitioned to government ownership before the Tata Group reacquired control of the airline in January 2022, bringing the carrier full circle back to its origins. This brain teaser serves as a subtle, yet engaging, tribute to its founder and rich legacy.
