The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has officially launched applications for its Young Professionals Program (YPP) 2026. This flagship initiative aims to recruit high-potential talent to contribute to ADB's Strategy 2030, which focuses on fostering a prosperous, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable Asia-Pacific region. Applications for the ADB Young Professionals Program are open from September 1 through September 30, 2026. The current vacancy is for a YP1-grade Young Professional within the Budget, People, and Management Systems Department at the ADB headquarters in Manila, Philippines.
Program Structure and Career Path
The YPP is a structured talent-management program designed to cultivate future organizational leaders through practical, hands-on operational work. Participants engage in policy formulation, research, project execution, and knowledge-sharing initiatives across critical sectors such as climate change, infrastructure, public policy, health, and finance.
The program begins with an 18-month initial posting in an operations or operations-support department at the Manila headquarters. Assignments can range from specialized solutions departments, like those focusing on climate or private-sector operations, to major non-operational units such as the Economic Research and Development Impact Department.
Following the initial 18 months, candidates undertake a rotational assignment in a different area of the bank, balancing individual career aspirations with organizational demands. Throughout the program, participants receive mentorship from seasoned international staff, including YPP alumni. Recruits typically enter at the YP1 grade, advance to YP2 after a successful 12-month probationary period, and achieve TI1 status upon absorption into a permanent role.
The initial appointment is a three-year fixed-term contract. While this contract is renewable for up to two additional years based on performance, organizational needs, and funding, it does not automatically transition into a permanent position.
Eligibility Criteria for YPP 2026
The ADB Young Professionals Program targets early-career professionals with established expertise, rather than recent graduates. Prospective applicants must meet several key criteria:
- Nationality & Age: Applicants must be nationals of an ADB member country and strictly 32 years old or younger at the time of application.
- Education: A first-level university degree with a strong academic record is required in fields such as economics, finance, business administration, engineering, law, environment, social sciences, or public policy. A postgraduate degree is highly preferred.
- Experience: Candidates must possess at least three years of relevant professional experience, which may include internships. Relevant sectors span macroeconomics, climate change, investment banking, transport, public health, energy, and urban planning. A PhD may substitute for professional work experience, and international experience linked to ADB operations is considered a significant asset.
- Core Competencies: Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to international development, agility, excellent interpersonal skills, and fluency in both written and spoken English.
Application and Selection Process
The selection process for the ADB Young Professionals Program involves a rigorous four-stage evaluation:
- Application Submission: Candidates must submit a comprehensive CV and their most recent university transcript via the ADB Current Opportunities portal by September 30, 2026.
- Online Assessment: Shortlisted candidates will be invited to undergo online testing.
- Video Interview: Selected applicants from the online assessment stage will record asynchronous responses to standard questions.
- Panel Interview: Candidates who successfully pass the video interview stage will advance to panel interviews, typically scheduled between December and February (Q1 2027 for the current cycle).

Compensation and Location
