Actor-Politician Vijay's Financial Disclosures
Actor-turned-politician Vijay, anticipated to become the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, has publicly disclosed his financial assets in an election affidavit filed in late March. The documents reveal a substantial net worth of approximately Rs 624 crore. However, a striking detail from his portfolio is the extremely low exposure to equity markets, with less than 0.04% of his total wealth held in stocks.
Vijay's financial strategy appears heavily concentrated in traditional assets, primarily bank deposits and a diverse portfolio of real estate holdings, both movable and immovable, totaling Rs 404 crore and Rs 220 crore respectively. He reported a total income of Rs 184.53 crore for FY 2024-25 and Rs 237 crore for FY 2023-24.
Substantial Movable Assets
The bulk of Vijay's movable assets is parked in bank accounts. A single savings account at Indian Overseas Bank in Saligramam holds over Rs 213 crore, accounting for more than half of his total movable wealth. Additionally, he has diversified Rs 100 crore across fixed deposits in four different banks:
- Axis Bank: Rs 40 crore
- Indian Overseas Bank: Rs 25 crore
- HDFC Bank: Rs 20 crore
- State Bank of India: Rs 15 crore
Minimal Equity Investments
Despite his considerable wealth, Vijay's direct investments in the stock market are notably limited, totaling under Rs 20 lakh. His equity holdings include:
- Jaya Nagar Property Pvt Ltd: Shares worth approximately Rs 19.69 lakh (an unlisted company)
- Indian Overseas Bank: Shares worth Rs 9,600 (a listed entity)
- Sun Paper Mill Ltd: Shares worth Rs 25,000 (an unlisted company)
These figures underscore his preference for less volatile asset classes over public market equities.
Extensive Immovable Property Portfolio
Vijay's immovable assets, valued at approximately Rs 220 crore, span various property types across Chennai and other regions. His residential holdings include ten properties, with significant valuations in:
- Neelankarai: Rs 20 crore
- Mylapore: Rs 45 crore
- Padur Village: Rs 15 crore
- Solinganallur: Rs 10 crore
- Other areas: approximately Rs 115 crore
Commercial properties in locations such as Parivakkam, Thyagaraya Nagar, Sholinganallur, and Koppur contribute around Rs 82.8 crore to his wealth. Furthermore, he owns non-agricultural land worth Rs 22 crore in Porur, Saligramam, and Neelankarai, alongside agricultural land valued at Rs 20 lakh in Vattapatti village, Kodaikanal.
Other Declared Possessions
The affidavit also details a collection of luxury vehicles, including a 2024 Toyota Lexus 350 (Rs 3.01 crore), a 2024 BMW i7 (Rs 2 crore), and a 2024 Toyota Vellfire (Rs 1.63 crore). Other vehicles listed are a 2020 BMW 530 (Rs 80.5 lakh), a 2024 Maruti Swift (Rs 5.35 lakh), and a 2025 TVS XL Super bike (Rs 67,400).
Vijay has also declared 883 grams of gold and silver articles, valued at Rs 1.2 crore. The financial disclosures additionally list 14 loans and advances, including a significant amount of Rs 12.6 crore extended to his spouse, Sangeetha Vijay.
