Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reached a significant milestone, becoming India's longest-serving elected Prime Minister. On June 10, he will complete 4,399 days in office, officially surpassing the tenure of Jawaharlal Nehru as an elected leader.
Modi first took the oath of office on May 26, 2014, and was subsequently re-elected in 2019 and secured a historic third consecutive term in 2024. This achievement has drawn congratulatory messages from numerous world leaders, who lauded his leadership, economic vision, and his role as a prominent voice for the Global South.

Distinction in Service
While Narendra Modi now holds the record as India's longest-serving elected Prime Minister in continuous office, Jawaharlal Nehru remains the country's longest-serving Prime Minister overall. Nehru served from August 15, 1947, until his passing in May 1964, a period that includes the years before India's first general election in 1951-52. This latest milestone for PM Modi comes nearly a year after he was sworn in for his third consecutive term following the 2024 Lok Sabha election, extending his tenure into its 13th year.
