The incident reportedly occurred inside the Lok Sabha premises, prompting Dastidar to report the matter to party leadership.

Trinamool Congress (TMC) Member of Parliament, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, has publicly accused her party colleague, Kalyan Banerjee, of verbally abusing her and other women MPs during a parliamentary party meeting held in May 2024. The alleged incident, which took place within the Lok Sabha premises, has sparked controversy within the political circles.

Ghosh Dastidar detailed the allegations, stating that Banerjee used "misogynistic" and "abusive" language towards her and other female representatives. She emphasized that this was not an isolated incident, suggesting a pattern of similar behavior from Banerjee. The accusations have been formally brought to the attention of TMC chairperson Mamata Banerjee and national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, with Ghosh Dastidar seeking intervention from the party leadership.

Details of the Alleged Incident

According to sources close to the development, the confrontation occurred during a closed-door meeting of TMC parliamentarians. Ghosh Dastidar reportedly highlighted Banerjee's aggressive demeanor and choice of words, which she deemed inappropriate and disrespectful, particularly towards women. Other MPs present at the meeting were reportedly taken aback by the intensity of the verbal exchange.

The timing of these allegations is notable, coming amidst a crucial period for the party, including the recent Lok Sabha elections. Such internal disputes can potentially impact party cohesion and public perception.

Kalyan Banerjee Denies Accusations

In response to the serious allegations, Kalyan Banerjee has vehemently denied any wrongdoing. He dismissed Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar's claims as "false and baseless," indicating a sharp disagreement over the events that transpired. Banerjee has not provided a detailed counter-narrative but maintains his innocence regarding the accusations of verbal abuse and misconduct.

"I have verbally abused me inside Lok Sabha. This is not the first time he has misbehaved with women MPs. He has used misogynistic language against us. I have already complained about it to our chairperson and national general secretary," Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar stated.

The Trinamool Congress party has yet to issue an official statement regarding the internal dispute. It remains to be seen how the party leadership will address the complaint and whether any action will be taken against either of the involved MPs. The incident underscores ongoing challenges regarding conduct and decorum within parliamentary settings.
