NEW DELHI – Congress leaders, spearheaded by Rahul Gandhi, staged a significant protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official residence in Central Delhi on Tuesday. The demonstration called for the immediate resignations of both the Prime Minister and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The protest was ignited by what Gandhi described as “brutalities against young students yesterday,” an issue the Congress party claims the government is unwilling to address or debate in Parliament. In a statement on social media, Gandhi asserted, “The Government doesn’t want to take any accountability, or does it want to have a debate on it in Parliament. PM and HM must resign for destroying the future of India's youth.”
Top Congress Figures Join Delhi Protest
Among the prominent figures joining Rahul Gandhi were Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, General Secretary KC Venugopal, and spokesperson Pawan Khera. Charanjit Singh Channi, Chairperson of the Punjab Congress Campaign Committee, was also present, underscoring the broad representation from the party leadership.
The protest took place in a high-security zone surrounding the Prime Minister's residence, prompting the Centre to engage with the demonstrators. Minister of State in the Department of Atomic Energy, Jitendra Singh, was seen at the protest site, engaging in conversation with Rahul Gandhi.
Demands for Accountability
The core demand from the protesting leaders was for accountability regarding the alleged actions against students. The Congress party has been vocal in its criticism of the government's handling of various issues concerning youth and education, intensifying its calls for a governmental response.
