Mexican Woman Amazed by Delhi's Lively Midnight Parks, Says It Doesn't Exist Back Home

· · 2 min read

A Mexican woman living in Delhi was surprised to find public parks bustling with families and individuals enjoying the cooler temperatures at midnight. She noted such late-night activity is uncommon in her home country, highlighting a unique adaptation to India's intense summer heat.

A Mexican woman residing in Delhi recently expressed her astonishment after encountering public parks that were still vibrant and full of people well past midnight. This scene, she noted, was unlike anything she had ever witnessed in her home country.

During a late-night walk with her husband on a Saturday, the woman observed numerous families, children playing on swings, and fitness enthusiasts all making the most of the cooler night air. The daytime temperatures in Delhi during summer often soar to 40-43 degrees Celsius (104-109°F), making outdoor activities during daylight hours nearly impossible for many.

Adapting to Delhi's Summer Heat

Curious about the unusual late-night activity, she inquired with her husband. He explained that residents often shift their social and recreational outings to the evening and night hours to escape the oppressive heat. Weekends, particularly Saturday nights, see many people seeking respite outdoors.

“It is very surprising. I will never imagine and that I have never seen in Mexico. People going to the park at midnight. There are like full family,” she recounted, describing the experience as “refreshing” and a “very good idea.”

A Unique Cultural Observation

Her observations quickly gained traction online, resonating with many who understand Delhi's unique adaptation to its severe summer climate. For the woman, the sight of entire families spending quality time together in a public space at such a late hour was a profound cultural difference.

She explained to the Hindustan Times that as a foreigner, she found it shocking because the high daytime temperatures make social life challenging. The discovery of vibrant midnight parks offered insight into how Delhiites manage to maintain social connections and enjoy leisure time despite the extreme weather conditions.
