Bristi Mukherjee, niece of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was tragically found dead at her residence in Birbhum district on Tuesday. Mukherjee, who was 28 years old, was discovered in a room on the second floor of her home in Kusumba village, located within the Rampurhat area.
Police Launch Investigation into Death
A senior police officer confirmed that authorities have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Mukherjee's death. Her body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause. Officials stated that the full details would be established only after the post-mortem report and other procedural inquiries are completed. Family Cites Depression and Job Loss
According to family members, Bristi Mukherjee had been undergoing treatment for depression for several years. They also informed authorities that she had recently lost her job. This job loss occurred in the wake of a Supreme Court decision to cancel recruitments to government-aided schools, a move that followed allegations of widespread corruption in the hiring process across West Bengal. Family members indicated that the loss of employment was among the significant challenges she had been facing.
