A massive fire broke out at a coaching institute in Lucknow's Aliganj area on Monday afternoon, leading to a frantic rescue operation. Reports indicate that several students jumped from the multi-story building to escape the flames, while many others are feared trapped inside.
Emergency Response Underway
The fire department was alerted around 3 PM IST to the blaze at a coaching center located on Usha Mehta Marg under the Aliganj police station limits. Initially, eight fire tenders were dispatched to the scene. However, due to the intensity of the fire and the potential for a high number of trapped individuals, the operation quickly escalated, with 14 fire tenders, including a hydraulic platform vehicle, pressed into service.
While no fatalities have been officially confirmed, two injured persons have been admitted to the King George's Medical University Trauma Centre, according to Professor Premraj Singh. Police sources and local residents suggest that 20 to 25 students might still be inside the burning structure.
Witness Accounts and Official Statements
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene, with a local resident telling PTI that the fire may have been triggered by a spark. "Seven to eight students jumped from the building to save themselves," the resident stated, highlighting the desperate measures taken by those inside.
Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak addressed the "extremely distressing" news, confirming that the injured are receiving treatment in hospitals. He has directed officials to ensure comprehensive medical care and all necessary assistance. Pathak also confirmed the deployment of a team of specialist doctors and six ambulances to the site, adding that he was personally heading to the location.
Rescue Efforts Continue
Firefighting and rescue operations are actively underway as emergency services work to control the inferno and locate any trapped individuals. The situation remains fluid, with further details awaited as the efforts continue.
