Group Captain Amit Kumar Gupta (retired), a decorated veteran of the 1999 Kargil War, reportedly suffered severe head injuries and a fractured hand after an alleged assault by parking staff in Gurugram. The incident, stemming from a dispute over parking services, occurred at Magnum Global Park on September 10.
Details of the Alleged Attack
According to Gupta’s police complaint, the altercation began around 8 p.m. when he arrived at Magnum Global Park for a family dinner. He stated that parking personnel repeatedly directed him between the valet area, the basement, and a multilevel parking facility before ultimately refusing to park his vehicle.
When Group Captain Gupta attempted to reverse his car to leave, one of the attendants allegedly struck the vehicle’s windshield with an iron rod. He confronted them about their actions, at which point he claims he was suddenly attacked and assaulted. "My elbow was fractured, and I suffered a head injury. There was heavy bleeding from my head," Gupta told India Today TV.
Injuries and Aftermath
The retired officer, who served in the Indian Air Force's Operation Safed Sagar during the Kargil War, was taken to Medanta Hospital by ambulance. He received treatment for his head and arm injuries and later underwent surgery. Gupta also alleged that security personnel and other parking staff present during the incident did not intervene or offer assistance.
Furthermore, the veteran claimed that the accused threatened to kill him after the assault. In his complaint, he also accused the police of failing to provide timely assistance and alleged that the hospital prepared an inaccurate medical report. These latter claims have not been independently verified.
Police Investigation Underway
Group Captain Gupta has filed a written complaint, urging the immediate registration of an FIR against the accused parking attendant under stringent sections, including those related to attempted murder and causing grievous injury. Police have confirmed that an investigation has commenced following the complaint.
