India Warns Pakistan at UN: Nuclear Weapons No Shield for Terror, Vows Zero Tolerance

· · 2 min read

India delivered a strong warning to Pakistan at the UN General Assembly, asserting that nuclear weapons cannot be used to shield cross-border terrorism. New Delhi affirmed its zero-tolerance policy against nuclear blackmail.

India delivered a resolute warning to Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly, asserting that nuclear weapons cannot serve as a shield for state-sponsored cross-border terrorism. Speaking at the UN General Assembly’s First Committee, India’s Senior Adviser Anmol Sher Singh Bedi emphasized New Delhi's unwavering stance against nuclear blackmail and its commitment to a fitting response against any terrorist attack.

India Rejects Nuclear Blackmail and Terror Sponsorship

Exercising its Right of Reply, India directly countered Pakistan's nuclear posture, cautioning the international community against allowing strategic arsenals to be leveraged for supporting terrorism. Bedi highlighted that relying on a "nuclear overhang" to mitigate consequences of subconventional warfare only elevates risk, rather than promoting restraint.

"Nuclear weapons must not be treated as routine instruments of statecraft," stated Anmol Sher Singh Bedi. "A posture that relies on nuclear overhang to limit the consequences of subconventional activity raises the risk of escalation and not the prospect of restraint."

India unequivocally rejected attempts by any state to hide behind proxy outfits or non-state actors, reiterating that such tactics do not absolve a nation of its state responsibility. "The use of force by states under the garb of non-state actors does not erase the state's responsibility. India's right of self-defense remains intact," Bedi affirmed.

New Delhi's Unyielding National Security Stance

The diplomat outlined three critical boundaries defining India's national security policy:

  • Response to Terror: Any terrorist attack launched against India will receive a fitting and decisive response.
  • No Blackmail: India will not bow to nuclear blackmail under any circumstances.
  • No Distinction: India will make no distinction between those who sponsor terrorism and those who mastermind it.

Furthermore, New Delhi reaffirmed that Jammu and Kashmir remains an integral and inalienable part of India. The nation also urged global arms suppliers to exercise the highest degree of vigilance regarding the transfer of advanced weapons to regimes that could potentially destabilize regional or international security.
