New Delhi has formally summoned Iran's Deputy Ambassador, Mohammad Javad Hosseini, to the Ministry of External Affairs after an Iranian missile strike in the Strait of Hormuz resulted in the death of an Indian crew member. The incident, which also left several others injured, has intensified diplomatic tensions in the critical shipping lane.

The diplomatic action comes a day after the United Arab Emirates reported that Iranian cruise missiles struck two tankers, the Mombasa and the Al Bahiyah, in the southern shipping lane of the Strait of Hormuz, specifically within Omani waters. Both vessels were set ablaze following the impact.
The UAE Ministry of Defence confirmed that one Indian national aboard the Mombasa was killed in the strike. Additionally, eight other crew members sustained injuries, including six Indians and two Ukrainians, with four of them reported to be in critical condition.

The UAE has unequivocally condemned the attack, describing it as a grave violation of international law. In a public statement, the Ministry of Defence warned that the nation reserves the right to respond and remains fully prepared to confront any threat that undermines regional stability.
