The opposition INDIA bloc is set to intensify its protest during the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament, with plans to 'gherao' the government. This strategy aims to force a special discussion on critical issues including the alleged NEET-UG paper leak, the recent Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest, and the Delhi Police's actions against student demonstrators.
Sources indicate that top opposition figures, including Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, have endorsed this confrontational approach. Yadav reportedly suggested that the INDIA bloc should remain focused solely on these issues to prevent the government from deflecting attention.
CJP Continues Agitation, Modifies Tactics
Outside Parliament, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) confirmed it would persist with its demands for Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation. However, following clashes with police, the party has decided against organizing another march to Parliament to prevent further injuries to young protesters. CJP chief Abhijeet Dipke apologized to supporters, particularly women, who he alleged were assaulted by male police personnel during the recent confrontation.
PM Modi Addresses NEET Leak
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting with NDA floor leaders. During the 'Mangal Milan' assembly, Modi acknowledged the irregularities in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and the subsequent protests. He described the paper leak as a "grave sin" and confirmed that those involved had been apprehended, urging NDA MPs to guide students constructively rather than inciting them.
Protest Clashes and Demands
The CJP's protest on Monday saw thousands gather from Delhi and surrounding areas. Delhi Police employed lathicharge, tear gas, and barricades to halt marchers attempting to reach Parliament. Police reported nearly 180 injuries, affecting both protesters and security personnel. CJP leaders met Union Minister JP Nadda during the protest, reiterating their core demands:
- The release of activist Sonam Wangchuk.
- Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation.
- ₹1 crore compensation for the families of students who allegedly died by suicide following the paper leak.
Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also visited injured protesters at Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, expressing solidarity with the students' cause.
