The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast indicating a 50% probability of very light rainfall between 7 AM and 9 AM on August 15, 2026, coinciding with the early hours of the national event.
According to the IMD's specific forecast for the Red Fort area, rainfall of approximately 2-4 mm could occur during this two-hour window. While no significant rain is expected between 6 AM and 7 AM, generally cloudy skies are anticipated to prevail throughout the day. Temperatures are predicted to range from a minimum of 24-26 degrees Celsius to a maximum of 31-33 degrees Celsius.
Beyond the morning, another period of very light rainfall, around 3 mm with a 60% probability, is forecast for the afternoon to evening. Calm surface winds were observed in the early hours of the day across the city.
The broader weather outlook for Delhi-NCR suggests continued wet conditions. The IMD predicts widespread light to moderate rainfall across Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi over the coming days, with monsoon activity intensifying. The capital region is expected to experience rain through the week, with light to moderate showers forecast until August 20.
This increased rainfall activity is influenced by a depression over Jharkhand and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal. This system is currently moving west-north-westwards and is expected to weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 24 hours, continuing to affect weather patterns across North India, including Delhi.
