Delhi Traffic Police Issue Advisory for Oct 12: 30 Diversions for Opposition March to SC

· · 3 min read

The Delhi Traffic Police have issued an advisory for October 12, detailing 30 road diversions due to an Opposition march to the Supreme Court. Commuters should expect heavy congestion and allow extra travel time, especially in New Delhi and Central Delhi areas.

The Delhi Traffic Police announced significant road diversions and traffic management measures across the capital on October 12, 2026, in anticipation of a planned march by opposition parties to the Supreme Court. The advisory, which came into effect at 6:00 AM, impacts 30 crucial traffic nodes primarily in the central, south, and central-west corridors of Delhi.

Commuters are urged to plan their travel well in advance and consider allotting extra time, particularly if heading towards major railway stations, Inter-State Bus Terminals (ISBTs), or Indira Gandhi International Airport. Authorities have also requested the public to avoid non-essential travel through the affected zones due to expected heavy congestion and localized disruptions throughout the day.

Key Areas Affected by Diversions

The widespread diversions encompass major arterial junctions and transit hubs. Among the prominently affected points are the Dhaula Kuan Flyover, Minto Road/Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg, Roundabout Mandi House, Roundabout Panchkuian, and the Tolstoy-Janpath Crossing. Areas around Connaught Place, including its Outer Circle intersections at Barakhamba Road, Sansad Marg, and Chelmsford Road, are also under active traffic management.

Additionally, critical stretches such as the Sardar Patel Marg-Panchsheel Marg crossing, the underpass at Bhikaji Cama Place, Moti Bagh Flyover, and Lodhi Road Flyover are part of the restricted corridors. Roundabouts near vital government and administrative zones like Patel Chowk, Rail Bhawan, Windsor Palace, Gol Dak Khana, and RML Hospital are also subject to significant traffic alterations.

Opposition's March to Supreme Court

The traffic disruptions stem from the 'Chalo Delhi - March for Democracy' organized by opposition parties. This protest aims to escalate their agitation against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral discrepancies and accusations of 'vote chori'. The primary demands include the Chief Election Commissioner's resignation, an immediate halt to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, and a return to paper ballots for elections.

Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge had reportedly sought an appointment with Chief Justice of India Surya Kant to submit a formal memorandum detailing their concerns. However, the Chief Justice informed the delegation that the Supreme Court cannot interfere with executive functions on the administrative side, reiterating that the court remains accessible to all citizens for fundamental rights violations.

Commuter Advice and Updates

Traffic officials emphasize that management measures are dynamic and will be adjusted based on real-time ground assessments. Commuters are strongly advised to monitor official Delhi Traffic Police communication channels for live updates, alternate routes, and continuous traffic alerts throughout October 12. These channels include their official website and social media platforms.
