The Delhi Traffic Police has issued a comprehensive advisory, alerting commuters to significant traffic diversions and regulated movement across the national capital on September 6, 2026. These measures are being implemented in anticipation of a full-scale motorcade rehearsal for the upcoming BRICS Summit 2026, scheduled from September 11 to 13.
The rehearsal, set to take place from 9 AM to 10 PM on September 6, will affect more than 35 key roads and involve at least 22 diversion points throughout Delhi. Authorities are urging residents and visitors to plan their journeys meticulously, allow for additional travel time, and prioritize public transportation, particularly the Delhi Metro, to minimize disruptions.
Commuter Guidelines and Affected Areas
According to the advisory, all emergency and essential-service vehicles will be granted priority passage during the period of regulated movement. Motorists are strictly advised to adhere to the designated diversion routes and follow instructions provided by traffic personnel stationed across the city.
Key routes in both central and south Delhi are expected to experience significant impacts. Diversions will be in effect around prominent locations including Dr Dinesh Nandini Dalmia Chowk, Ram Charan Aggarwal Chowk, Mir Dard Chowk, Kasturba Gandhi Marg, Janpath/Connaught Place, Patel Chowk, Moti Bagh Flyover, Lodhi Road, Neela Gumbad, the area under Oberoi Flyover, Ring Road/Bhairon Road, and Mandi House, among others.
Travel to Railway Stations and Airport
For passengers traveling to and from major railway stations, the Delhi Traffic Police has outlined alternative routes:
- New Delhi Railway Station: Commuters can use routes via ISBT Kashmiri Gate, Ring Road, Rajghat, and Ashram Chowk, depending on their starting point.
- Old Delhi Railway Station & Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station: Specific alternative routes have also been provided for these hubs.
Regarding airport travel, the Delhi Metro is strongly recommended as the most reliable option during the advisory period. However, alternative road routes have also been suggested for passengers traveling from areas such as Gurugram, Dwarka, New Delhi, South Delhi, and West Delhi to reach the airport.
Public Transport and Parking Advisories
While Metro services will remain fully operational across all stations, bus routes may face temporary diversions during VIP movements. Users of taxis and auto-rickshaws should note that roadside parking will not be permitted outside of designated parking areas.
The Delhi Traffic Police has also appealed to citizens to avoid unnecessary travel through controlled zones, remain vigilant by following all road signs and traffic personnel directions, and immediately report any suspicious or unidentified objects to the nearest police station.
