The Delhi government has announced an extended summer vacation for all government schools, effective from May 11 to June 30. This decision provides students with a longer break, while also incorporating a period for crucial academic support.
Remedial Classes for Key Grades
During the initial phase of the vacation, remedial classes will be organized for students in Classes 9, 10, and 12. These sessions are scheduled to run from May 11 (Monday) to May 23 (Saturday). The Directorate of Education emphasized that these classes are designed to reinforce key concepts and improve learning outcomes, particularly for academically needy students.
Subject Focus and Schedule
- Classes 9 and 10: The primary focus will be on Science and Mathematics. However, Heads of Schools (HoS) have the discretion to add other subjects based on academic requirements, result analysis, and teacher availability.
- Class 12: Subjects for these students will be determined by the respective Heads of Schools, tailored to the specific academic needs of the students.
Remedial class timings will be from 7:20 am to 11:00 am for teachers and 7:30 am to 10:30 am for students. Each period is designated to be one hour in duration.
Operational Guidelines and Student Welfare
Schools have received clear instructions regarding the conduct of these remedial classes. They must ensure the availability of teaching staff and adequate school infrastructure. Key guidelines include:
- Students must attend classes in proper school uniform.
- Attendance will be marked online and is mandatory.
- Parental consent or No Objection Certificates (NOC) are required for students attending the classes.
- Teachers are urged to provide individual attention to students to enhance learning outcomes.
- Library facilities must remain open for self-study and book issuance during the remedial period.
- Schools are responsible for ensuring clean drinking water and other basic amenities for both students and staff.
Staffing and Monitoring
To facilitate the remedial program, guest or contract teachers may be engaged if regular teachers are unavailable. Regular teachers assigned to remedial duties will be granted Earned Leave instead of vacation duty, in accordance with CCS Leave Rules, while guest teachers will be compensated as per prevailing norms.
To ensure smooth implementation and effectiveness, all District and Zone Deputy Directors of Education (DDEs) have been directed to closely monitor the remedial classes. Officials are instructed to visit at least two schools daily where these classes are being conducted during the summer vacation period.
