New Delhi – The Indian National Congress, led by prominent figures including Rahul Gandhi, staged a significant protest on Tuesday outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official residence in Central Delhi. The demonstration demanded accountability from the government regarding alleged brutalities against students and called for the resignations of both the Prime Minister and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Leaders Demand Answers and Resignations
Among the senior Congress leaders present were party President Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, KC Venugopal, and Pawan Khera. Charanjit Singh Channi, Chairperson of the Punjab Congress Campaign Committee, also participated in the demonstration.
Rahul Gandhi took to social media platform X, stating, "We have marched to PM Modi’s house to demand answers from him for the brutalities against young students yesterday." He further criticized the government, asserting that it "doesn’t want to take any accountability, or does it want to have a debate on it in Parliament. PM and HM must resign for destroying the future of India's youth."
Centre Initiates Dialogue Amidst High Security
Given the Prime Minister's residence is designated as a high-security zone, the Central government promptly responded to the protest. Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Department of Atomic Energy, arrived at the protest site and was observed engaging in a conversation with Rahul Gandhi. This direct engagement marked an effort by the Centre to address the demonstrators amidst their demands.
The protest underscores escalating tensions between the opposition and the government over issues concerning India's youth and educational policies.
