Veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher has expressed profound sorrow and shock following the devastating flash floods in Nepal, describing the emerging visuals as “horrifying” and heartbreaking. The actor took to Instagram, sharing a video and an emotional note, offering prayers for those who lost their lives and expressing solidarity with families facing immense uncertainty.
Kher Appeals for International Support
In his message, Kher highlighted the scale of destruction, stating, “I pray for Nepal! Deeply saddened and horrified by the devastation caused by the sudden floods in Nepal. Lives lost. Families torn apart. Homes washed away. Helpless animals caught in the destruction.” He emphasized the difficulty of comprehending how individuals could lose everything within moments and appealed to the international community for urgent assistance.
“What words can comfort someone who has lost a loved one? My heart goes out to the grieving families and to everyone living through this fear and uncertainty,” Kher wrote, articulating a sense of helplessness while witnessing the disaster unfold.
Devastation Across the Himalayan Region
Kher also spoke about the widespread destruction of homes, property, agricultural fields, and animal life. His video message underscored the “terrible” situation and the immense devastation conveyed by frightening visuals from Nepal. The 71-year-old actor extended his prayers beyond Nepal, expressing significant concern for people affected across the border in Tibet as well.
“May those still waiting for help be reached. May those searching for their loved ones find them safe. And may those who have lost everything find support, shelter and a hand to hold,” Kher stated, urging people worldwide to respond with compassion and urgency.
According to reports, the disaster has claimed more than 470 lives and left over 1,500 people missing across the wider Himalayan region. In Nepal alone, officials confirmed the national death toll climbed to 469. Emergency crews have rushed scores of injured survivors to regional hospitals, and more than 3,000 people have been airlifted by rescue teams. On the Chinese side of the border, state media reported that the death toll had risen to five.
Kher acknowledged the efforts of the Indian government in assisting those affected and conveyed his deep sympathy for communities impacted throughout the region.
