Zomato Bans Synthetic Dairy, Mandates Menu Transparency for Restaurants

· · 2 min read

Food delivery giant Zomato has implemented an immediate ban on dishes containing synthetic dairy products. Restaurants must now use natural dairy or remove non-compliant items and verify supplier ingredient labels for menu accuracy.

Food delivery behemoth Zomato has announced a sweeping ban on the sale of analogue (synthetic) dairy dishes across its platform, effective immediately. This zero-tolerance policy aims to significantly enhance food quality standards, safeguard consumer health, and drive greater transparency within its vast network of restaurant partners.

Immediate Action on Synthetic Dairy

As part of this stringent new directive, any dishes that restaurants had previously declared as containing analogue dairy have been delisted from the Zomato platform. Restaurant partners are now mandated to take immediate corrective action, transitioning to natural dairy products for their menu items.

Should an immediate switch not be feasible, establishments are required to remove all items containing analogue dairy from their digital menus entirely. Zomato emphasizes that this move is a direct reflection of its commitment to consumer well-being and clear food standards.

Mandatory Menu Transparency and Supplier Verification

Beyond the ban on synthetic dairy, Zomato is also enforcing stricter rules around menu transparency. The platform has ordered all restaurant partners to meticulously review supplier product labels and ingredient declarations. This measure ensures that the ingredients listed on menus accurately reflect what goes into the food prepared and served to customers.

Aditya Mangla, CEO of Zomato, commented on the initiative, stating, "At Zomato, our core mission is better food for more people, and that means safeguarding customer health and upholding clear standards for what's listed and served by our restaurant partners. This policy reflects that commitment, one we're taking together with partners who share it."

Consequences for Non-Compliance

Zomato has issued a clear warning: restaurant partners who fail to comply with these new mandates will face delisting from the platform. This firm stance underscores the company's dedication to enforcing its updated food quality and transparency guidelines.

The policy aligns with Zomato’s broader strategic focus on promoting healthier food choices and maintaining robust transparency, in full compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, setting a new benchmark for food delivery platforms.
