Zepto, a prominent quick commerce platform, is gearing up to launch a new premium grocery service dubbed 'Select.' This upcoming feature, expected to appear as a dedicated tab within the existing Zepto app, signifies the company's strategic move into the high-end grocery market.
The 'Select' service will focus on providing a curated selection of premium groceries, including imported food items, gourmet products, and other high-quality household goods. This expansion positions Zepto to directly challenge rivals such as Blinkit Gourmet and FirstClub, which currently cater to affluent consumers seeking specialized food and grocery options.
Targeting High-Demand Urban Markets
Initially, Zepto plans to roll out 'Select' in India's top 40 to 60 cities. These urban centers have been identified for their higher disposable incomes and stronger demand for premium and luxury consumer products. This strategy contrasts with some competitors, including Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, and Amazon Now, which have broadened their reach to include numerous smaller cities.
Reports indicate that Zepto has already conducted trials for 'Select' in select locations, receiving positive feedback. The company is actively engaging with premium and luxury consumer brands to list their products under the new category ahead of its official launch.
Competitive Pricing and Market Expansion
While moving into the premium segment, Zepto intends to offer competitive pricing to attract customers, aiming to provide a more affordable option compared to existing high-end grocery services. Although Zepto has not yet made an official announcement regarding 'Select,' an unveiling is anticipated closer to the service's launch.
This venture marks a significant shift for Zepto, moving beyond its traditional focus on everyday, value-oriented grocery items. The introduction of 'Select' underscores the company's ambition to broaden its market presence and cater to a diverse range of consumer needs across India.
