New data for 2025 reveals a significant surge in global AI tool website visits, with the United States leading the pack. Americans made 26.92 billion visits to AI tool websites, accounting for 21.4% of the worldwide total. India emerged as the second-largest market, recording 11.96 billion visits, which represents 9.5% of global traffic.
Global AI Tool Traffic Surges
Overall, AI tools witnessed 125.7 billion website visits globally in 2025, marking a substantial 46% increase from the previous year. This data, compiled by AITools.xyz using traffic estimates from SEMrush and Ahrefs, covers activity across more than 9,500 AI tool websites. Together, the US, India, and Brazil accounted for 36.5% of all AI tool website visits worldwide.
India Outpaces European Nations
India's performance placed it ahead of every European country in the ranking. Brazil secured third place globally with 7.02 billion visits. Germany was the highest-ranked European nation at fourth, recording 4.57 billion visits, followed by the UK at fifth with 3.84 billion. France appeared seventh with 3.42 billion visits.
Other countries making it into the top ten include Indonesia (sixth with 3.66 billion visits), Japan (eighth with 3.29 billion), Canada (ninth with 2.96 billion), and the Philippines (tenth with 2.93 billion). Mexico (2.78 billion), Vietnam (2.67 billion), Italy (2.56 billion), and Spain (2.54 billion) followed in the subsequent ranks.
Understanding the Data: Websites vs. Adoption
It is crucial to note that these figures measure website visits, not the total number of individuals using AI or their frequency. One person can generate multiple visits, and interactions with different AI tools are counted separately. The data also explicitly excludes mobile app sessions, which is a significant distinction, especially for markets where AI tools are predominantly accessed via apps.
Why China's Ranking Differs
China, despite being a major player in AI development, ranked 15th with 2.42 billion visits. This lower position does not fully reflect its overall AI usage. Western AI tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude have limited availability in China. Instead, domestic AI assistants such as DeepSeek, Doubao, and Quark see substantial usage, primarily through mobile applications. Since app sessions are excluded from this website traffic data, China's true AI engagement is likely understated.
Traffic vs. True AI Adoption
The ranking further highlights that high website traffic does not always equate to high AI adoption rates. For example, while the US leads in website visits, Microsoft data cited by Visual Capitalist ranks the country 21st for AI adoption, with 31.3% of working-age adults using AI regularly. In contrast, smaller economies like the UAE show a much higher regular AI usage rate of 70.1% among working-age adults. Therefore, countries with the most AI tool website visits are not necessarily those with the highest AI adoption rates.
