Ukraine has reported a groundbreaking military operation, asserting that its forces successfully captured a Russian position using only unmanned systems. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Monday, April 13, 2026, that this marked the first instance in the conflict where an enemy stronghold was taken without the deployment of a single soldier.
“For the first time in the history of this war, an enemy position was taken exclusively by unmanned platforms – ground systems and drones,” Zelenskyy stated on X. He further emphasized the significance of the operation, noting that “The occupiers surrendered, and the operation was carried out without infantry and without losses on our side.”
This development underscores Ukraine's increasing reliance on advanced technology as the war progresses. Zelenskyy highlighted the rapid expansion of the nation's defense industry, positioning Ukraine at the forefront of military innovation, where machines are increasingly taking on roles traditionally held by human combatants.
The Ukrainian leader detailed the country's robust production capabilities, including millions of FPV drones annually, alongside interceptors, artillery shells, and sophisticated long-range strike systems. Ground robotic systems have become integral to frontline operations. Zelenskyy reported that platforms like "Ratel," "TerMIT," "Ardal," "Rys," "Zmiy," "Protector," and "Volia" have collectively executed over 22,000 missions within a three-month period. These robots are deployed in high-risk environments, effectively replacing soldiers and safeguarding human lives.
Beyond land-based innovations, Ukraine has demonstrated unparalleled expertise in maritime warfare, particularly in the Black Sea. Naval drone systems, including "Sea Baby," "Magura," and "Sargan," are now recognized globally and contribute to Ukraine's potential defense exports.
