AI-powered education startup Sortmyprep, previously supported by PIEDS, BITS Pilani, has successfully closed a pre-seed funding round, raising approximately $350,000. The investment, led by a consortium of Indian and global angel investors, is earmarked for significant growth initiatives.
The fresh capital will primarily be used to bolster the company's proprietary vertical AI infrastructure, broaden its curriculum offerings, and accelerate its market penetration across India and internationally. Sortmyprep currently specializes in AI-driven school exam preparation, catering to international curricula such as IB and IGCSE.
Key Investors and Organic Growth
The funding round saw participation from a diverse group of prominent investors. These include Boman Irani, Chairman of Rustomjee Group and Rustomjee International School; Sameer Mehta, co-founder of boAt; Subrat Pani, co-founder of OneAssist; Rohini Kasturi, CEO of HG Insights; and Ranjit Pawar, APAC Head at London Stock Exchange Group.
Remarkably, Sortmyprep claims that 71% of its users have been acquired through referrals and word-of-mouth, demonstrating strong organic growth without reliance on paid marketing. Sameer Mehta highlighted this organic traction as a testament to the product's quality and clear market demand. Boman Irani also noted the platform's ability to provide accurate, curriculum-specific academic support to students whenever needed, addressing a crucial challenge for schools.
Expanding AI-Powered Learning
Founded by Ananya, Aryaman, and Naman, Sortmyprep integrates its proprietary AI technology with expert-validated academic workflows to deliver highly specific learning assistance. The platform features "Sorty," a board-aligned conversational AI tutor that offers round-the-clock personalized doubt resolution and adaptive study support.
The company currently serves students in over 15 countries and has developed a proprietary dataset of more than one million human-generated learning data points. Beyond its investor network, Sortmyprep benefits from partnerships and programs with leading technology and educational institutions, including Nvidia, Google for Startups, OpenAI, BITS Pilani, and Ashoka University.
Future Outlook and Curriculum Expansion
Looking ahead, Sortmyprep plans to expand its coverage beyond international boards to include CBSE, ICSE, and other major global curricula. This expansion aligns with the increasing global shift towards competency-based learning models in education systems. The founders emphasized that the new funding will be instrumental in accelerating product development, broadening curriculum scope, and strengthening the company's global footprint, all while maintaining its core focus on personalized, accurate, and outcome-driven learning experiences.
