Sonos Unveils AI Audio OS, Beam Ultra & Ace Ultra; Sonos Play Arrives in India

· · 3 min read

Sonos introduced Sonos 27 AI audio OS, Beam Ultra soundbar, and Ace Ultra headphones. The portable Sonos Play speaker is launching in India on September 8th, expanding the company's presence in the market.

Sonos is revolutionizing its connected audio ecosystem with the introduction of AI-driven controls, enhanced speaker interactions, and new premium hardware. The company is also significantly expanding its portable speaker lineup into the Indian market this month, marking a strategic move to broaden its global reach.

Sonos 27: AI at the Core of Audio Experience

The centerpiece of Sonos's latest innovations is Sonos 27, the newest iteration of its audio operating system. This update brings advanced AI-powered controls, a redesigned application interface, and novel ways for Sonos speakers and headphones to interact seamlessly. A key feature for users is the ability to manage their Sonos system through an integrated AI assistant or authorized external AI agents, including popular platforms like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Sonos 27 incorporates "Sonos 27 voice," an assistant specifically engineered for music and mood curation. Furthermore, its "Sonos 27 mcp" feature allows external AI assistants to connect to a Sonos system post-user authorization. This means users could, for example, instruct ChatGPT to play music in various rooms without interrupting their ongoing conversation. Sonos is also developing "Custom Agents," enabling users to personalize AI agents with their preferred models, personalities, and voices.

Smart Speaker Adaptation with Sonos Fabric

Complementing the software advancements, Sonos is rolling out its Sonos Fabric system. This innovative framework allows compatible Sonos products to automatically detect each other and adapt their roles within the audio setup. One practical application of Sonos Fabric is the ability for compatible portable speakers to instantly reconfigure as rear surrounds when positioned appropriately, offering a dynamic and responsive home theater experience.

Sonos Play Launches in India

Indian consumers can look forward to the launch of the Sonos Play portable speaker on September 8th, priced at Rs 35,999. This versatile speaker integrates with a Sonos system via Wi-Fi and boasts an impressive 24 hours of battery life. Designed for durability and convenience, it features an IP67-rated waterproof construction, a built-in power bank for charging other devices, and a user-replaceable battery.

For the first time, multiple Sonos Play speakers can be grouped together via Bluetooth when users are away from their home Wi-Fi network. The speaker also supports popular streaming services and protocols, including Spotify Connect, Apple AirPlay 2, various voice services, and direct control through the Sonos app.

Introducing Beam Ultra and Ace Ultra

Globally, Sonos has also unveiled two new premium hardware products: the Beam Ultra soundbar and the Ace Ultra headphones.

  • Beam Ultra: This mid-size soundbar delivers an immersive audio experience with 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos support. It incorporates AI Speech Enhancement for clearer dialogue, a Night Sound mode for reduced volume fluctuations, and Trueplay tuning for optimal sound calibration to any room.
  • Ace Ultra: The new headphones feature spatial audio for a more enveloping listening experience and robust Active Noise Cancellation (ANC). Equipped with 10 microphones, the Ace Ultra headphones offer adaptive noise cancellation. They provide up to 35 hours of listening time with ANC enabled, and a rapid three-minute charge yields up to three hours of playback.
