Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Set for Major Redesign, New 'Wide' Model Expected

· · 3 min read

Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 is reportedly undergoing a significant redesign, featuring a slimmer build, lighter weight, and an improved hinge. A new, wider variant is also anticipated to launch in July 2026.

Samsung is preparing to unveil its next generation of foldable smartphones, with reports indicating a significant redesign for the highly anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 8. Expected to launch in July 2026 alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 8, the new book-style foldable is rumored to feature a slimmer profile, reduced weight, and an enhanced hinge mechanism.

Major Design Overhaul for Z Fold 8

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is said to receive a comprehensive design refresh aimed at improving user comfort and portability. Leaks suggest the device will weigh approximately 210 grams, a slight reduction from its predecessor's 215 grams. When unfolded, the device is expected to measure around 4.1 mm in thickness, contributing to a more comfortable in-hand feel for everyday use.

A key enhancement lies in the redesigned folding mechanism. The new hinge is rumored to allow the phone to open flatter and more smoothly, eliminating the stiff or slightly bent feel sometimes associated with current models. This improvement promises a more seamless user experience.

In terms of aesthetics, Samsung appears to be moving away from the previously rounded edges, opting instead for a flatter, sharper look with more rectangular corners. This shift could give the Galaxy Z Fold 8 a more modern and streamlined appearance.

"Wide" Model Joins the Lineup

Adding to the excitement, Samsung is also reportedly planning to introduce a new "Wide" model alongside the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8. This variant is expected to feature a 4:3 aspect ratio on its inner display, potentially offering a more expansive viewing experience.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide model is anticipated to be even lighter and slimmer, weighing around 200 grams and measuring approximately 3.9mm when unfolded. Photography enthusiasts may appreciate its rumored dual rear camera setup, which includes a 50MP main sensor and a 50MP ultrawide lens.

Battery Specifications

Powering the devices, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to pack a substantial 5000mAh battery. The new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide model, while slimmer, is still projected to offer a robust 4,800 mAh battery.

S Pen Support Remains Uncertain

While design and performance improvements are on the horizon, one notable change reportedly concerns S Pen support. Current reports suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 may not come with integrated S Pen functionality, a departure from some previous Fold models.

As the anticipated July 2026 launch approaches, more details about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and its new "Wide" counterpart are expected to emerge, offering further insights into Samsung's vision for the future of foldable smartphones.
