Primebook, the laptop brand known for its affordable devices, is preparing to launch its third generation of laptops, which promise significant advancements in operating system flexibility and raw performance. The upcoming Primebook Linux laptops will natively support selected Linux applications and a Linux terminal through PrimeOS, alongside its existing Android application ecosystem.
Expanding OS Capabilities
This expansion means users will be able to run a wider range of productivity and development tools directly on their Primebook devices. Applications such as VS Code, GIMP, LibreOffice, MySQL Workbench, and Postman are expected to function smoothly. For those requiring Windows software, Primebook will continue to offer access through its subscription-based PrimeX Cloud PC service.
Chitranshu Mahant, Co-Founder and CEO of Primebook, emphasized the company's shift towards designing devices around evolving user needs rather than a single use case. Mahant stated that personal computing must adapt to changing user requirements over a device's lifespan, ensuring Primebook devices possess sufficient "capability headroom" for increasingly sophisticated demands.
Significant Performance Upgrade
Beyond software enhancements, the new Primebook laptops are also slated for a substantial performance upgrade. The third-generation series is expected to deliver up to 40% higher performance compared to its predecessors. This boost comes from a transition in processors, moving from the MediaTek Helio G99 to the more powerful MediaTek Genio 720 chip. Primebook asserts that these new chips will enable faster and more responsive operation across both everyday tasks and more demanding workloads.
While specific details regarding full specifications, pricing, and the exact launch date are yet to be revealed, Primebook's strategy aims to position PrimeOS as a comprehensive computing platform, breaking free from the limitations of a single operating system.
