Oppo has officially unveiled ColorOS 17, a substantial software update based on Android 17, bringing a significant transformation to user interaction across Oppo, OnePlus, and Realme devices. Launched in China on September 17, the new operating system integrates a fresh design philosophy with a comprehensive suite of AI-powered tools, alongside notable enhancements in performance and security.
The update aims to provide a smoother, more intuitive experience, extending connectivity across a broader ecosystem of devices, including earphones, cars, and smartwatches.
Redesigned Fluid Interface
ColorOS 17 introduces 'Fluid Design,' a refined aesthetic that permeates the entire user interface. Key elements of this redesign include a floating, pill-shaped navigation bar and responsive animations that contribute to a more dynamic feel. A frosted-glass visual effect is consistently applied across various system applications such as the Control Centre, Media Player, Notes, and Files, enhancing visual depth. Users will also find three new customizable clock styles for the lock screen, offering greater personalization.

A core focus of ColorOS 17 is its deeper integration of artificial intelligence, providing users with powerful new capabilities:
- AI Photo Editor: This tool allows users to effortlessly remove unwanted objects from images, reduce motion blur, and adjust colors, lighting, or even skin tones using a reference image.

- Xiao Bu Assistant: For users in China, this assistant can track tasks, create detailed travel itineraries, and manage over 700 diverse scenarios.
- Real-time Translation: Compatible Oppo earphones now support real-time conversation translation, breaking down language barriers on the fly.

Oppo has engineered ColorOS 17 for enhanced performance and robust security. The 'Tidal Engine' intelligently learns app usage patterns to optimize resource management, resulting in a claimed 55.6% better background app retention, 35% improved launch stability, and 50% faster scrolling and loading within third-party photo galleries. The 'Polar Light Engine' further contributes by reducing app-launch memory usage by 25% and rendering load by 30%.
Security measures have also been bolstered with new AI-driven features:

The first devices slated to receive ColorOS 17 include the Oppo Find X10 series, OnePlus 16, and Oppo Watch S2. In China, the stable rollout is scheduled to commence on October 8, with more devices following through December. Oppo has yet to announce the specific global or India rollout schedule for the update.
