Nothing CEO Carl Pei announced the company's first AI-native product will ship next month. Notably, it will not feature a new screen, with Pei emphasizing a focus on productivity over new consumer gadgets.

London, UK – Nothing, the consumer technology company led by Carl Pei, is set to launch its inaugural AI-native product next month. CEO Carl Pei confirmed the upcoming release, stating that the device will not include a new screen, diverging from the current trend of AI companions and screen-based gadgets.

Pei shared his vision on social media platform X, indicating that Nothing believes the immediate future of artificial intelligence lies in enhancing workplace productivity rather than creating a new 'iPhone moment' for consumers. He argued that the industry is prematurely seeking a breakthrough consumer device, comparing AI's current stage to the early days of personal computers and mobile phones, which initially found widespread adoption in professional settings.

AI's Productivity Potential Over New Gadgets

According to Pei, many companies are focusing on products like pendants, pins, and smart glasses, which he views as a misdirection. Instead, Nothing aims to make AI genuinely useful for everyday work. He highlighted that over half of current company spending on AI is directed towards job-specific applications, particularly in coding, IT, customer support, and legal services.

A core limitation Pei identified in current AI systems is their lack of context. Users frequently have to manually input information from emails, calendars, and conversations to enable AI tools to perform tasks effectively. Pei stated, "Half the work of using AI is getting context into the text box," suggesting that integrating this everyday context is key to unlocking AI's true potential.

Integrating AI with Design and Context

Nothing plans to leverage its existing ecosystem of hardware and software to embed AI capabilities more seamlessly into users' lives. Pei believes that by bringing contextual data into AI systems, these tools can become significantly more proactive and helpful, handling routine tasks and allowing individuals to concentrate on creative and strategic work.

The company also remains committed to thoughtful design, arguing that workplace technology should not compromise on aesthetics or user experience. While the specific form factor, features, and pricing of Nothing's first AI-native product remain undisclosed, it is expected to embody this philosophy of combining functionality with superior design to address real-world productivity challenges.
