The UK-based consumer electronics brand, Nothing, has officially unveiled Nothing OS 5.0, its latest software update built upon the foundation of Android 17. This significant release promises more than 80 upgrades, focusing on a refined user experience, advanced artificial intelligence capabilities, and extensive personalization options for its device ecosystem.
Refreshed Design and Adaptive Interface
Nothing OS 5.0 introduces a comprehensive design overhaul across the user interface. Key enhancements include a redesigned home screen with a new theme and the integration of transparent elements visible across widgets, the search bar, and the gallery application. The system now features adaptive colors, allowing the UI to dynamically adopt hues from the user's wallpaper for a cohesive aesthetic.
Further visual refinements extend to the system UI, with a redesigned status bar, updated icons, improved spacing, and new animations for core applications like Settings, Camera, and Gallery. The OS also transitions to the Geist typeface, accompanied by revised text sizes to enhance readability and visual appeal.
Glyph Interface Enhancements
A dedicated Glyph app is now central to Nothing OS 5.0, consolidating management for all Glyph lighting effects, sounds, ringtones, and schedules into one intuitive location. Additionally, a new Glyph Timer widget allows users to initiate a countdown directly from their home screen. While active, the Glyph lights on the phone's rear visually display the remaining time, offering a unique, glanceable countdown.
Performance and AI Upgrades
The update brings substantial performance improvements, including better touch response and more efficient background app retention, alongside smarter resource management. AI features receive major enhancements, such as faster and more accurate transcription through Essential Voice and the introduction of Smart Collections within Essential Space. The OS also empowers users with tools to create simple AI-powered applications without requiring coding expertise.
Android 17 Integration and Privacy Features
Nothing OS 5.0 seamlessly integrates a suite of features from Android 17. Users will benefit from separate notifications and quick settings for improved organization, as well as cross-platform sharing capabilities with iPhones via QR codes. Enhanced privacy indicators provide greater transparency, and the inclusion of Noto 3D emojis offers a fresh visual experience for communication.

The Nothing OS 5.0 update will first be accessible as an Open Beta, commencing on August 26, 2026, at 3:30 PM IST. The Nothing Phone (3) is slated to be the initial device to receive this beta access, with other eligible Nothing devices scheduled to follow with staggered rollout dates.
