Santosh Yadav, an Indian tech professional, has garnered widespread attention online for his remarkable journey from humble beginnings in a Mumbai slum to a thriving career in Germany. His story, shared on social media and a personal blog, highlights a path of perseverance against significant odds.

Yadav spent 29 years of his life in a Mumbai slum, describing it as a challenging environment with both positive and negative influences. Academically, he faced early setbacks, notably performing poorly in his Class 10 exams, which initially limited his higher education options. However, a family friend's suggestion led him to pursue a diploma in computer science, marking a pivotal turn. Despite struggling with English early on, he diligently improved his skills and eventually completed his BTech from Mumbai University.

Navigating Early Career Challenges

His entry into the job market coincided with the global financial crisis of 2008, making opportunities scarce. Yadav's first job offered a modest salary of Rs 5,000 per month. He recounted switching jobs multiple times, including a period of unemployment and taking on support roles to gain experience in SQL queries and C# programming, despite continued low pay.

A Turning Point in Open Source

The trajectory of Yadav's career significantly shifted around 2019 when he began actively contributing to open-source projects, including Angular and NgRx. His dedication and expertise in these areas earned him recognition as a Google Developer Expert (GDE) for Angular. In 2020, he further solidified his reputation by becoming India's first GitHub Star, a testament to his contributions to the developer community.

Today, Santosh Yadav holds the position of Principal Developer Advocate at CodeRabbit in Germany, where he celebrates milestones such as his 17th wedding anniversary. His narrative, contrasting a 2012 photo from his Mumbai slum home with a 2026 image in Hamburg, serves as a powerful illustration of his journey and transformation.
