Microsoft is expanding its Surface lineup with two new lightweight Windows PCs: the Surface Pro 12-inch and the Surface Laptop 13-inch. Both devices feature Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X2 Plus processor, emphasizing significant improvements in everyday performance, battery efficiency, and on-device artificial intelligence capabilities.
Enhanced Performance and AI Integration
The new Surface models boast impressive performance gains over their predecessors. Microsoft claims up to 17% faster Office productivity, over 60% faster graphics rendering, and a remarkable 95% faster local AI inferencing. These advancements are driven by the Snapdragon X2 Plus, which includes a six-core CPU, an Adreno GPU, and a Qualcomm Hexagon NPU delivering 80 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second).
Surface Pro 12: A Versatile 2-in-1
The Surface Pro 12 retains its signature 2-in-1 design, offering a fanless Windows 11 Home experience. It features a vibrant 12-inch PixelSense LCD touchscreen and weighs just 686g without its optional keyboard. Storage options include 256GB or 512GB UFS, paired with 16GB or 24GB LPDDR5x RAM. Connectivity is modern with Wi-Fi 7 and two USB-C/USB 3.2 ports.
For optics, it includes a 1080p Full HD front camera and a 10-megapixel Ultra HD rear camera. Battery life is rated for up to 15.5 hours of local video playback and 13 hours of active web usage. The display is 25% brighter at 500 nits, supporting the Surface Slim Pen and Microsoft Ink Canvas for creative and productive tasks. Starting at $1,149.99, an optional 5G version will also be available for commercial clients, though a power supply is sold separately.
Surface Laptop 13: Power and Portability
The Surface Laptop 13 provides a more traditional laptop form factor with a premium aluminum body, a full-size backlit keyboard, and a precision touchpad. It features a 13-inch 3:2 PixelSense touchscreen and weighs 1.23kg. Like the Surface Pro, it is powered by the same Snapdragon X2 Plus processor, offering identical RAM and removable storage configurations.
Connectivity options are robust, including Wi-Fi 7, two USB-C/USB 3.2 ports, a USB-A 3.2 port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Its 1080p Full HD camera ensures clear video calls. The Surface Laptop 13 excels in battery longevity, offering up to 22.5 hours of local video playback and 18 hours of active web usage. This model starts at $1,199, but notably does not support Surface Pen input.
New Surface Mouse and Availability
Accompanying the new devices is the Surface Mouse, priced at $79.99. It features haptic feedback, Bluetooth 6.0, an ambidextrous design, and a customizable action button for Copilot and other shortcuts. Both the Surface Pro 12 and Surface Laptop 13 will be available in Violet, Black, and Platinum color options, launching on October 13 in select markets. While Microsoft has listed the Surface Pro 12 on its official India website, specific pricing and sale dates for the Indian market are yet to be confirmed.
