iPhone 18 Pro Users Report Crackling Speaker Sounds, Apple Yet to Confirm Cause

· · 2 min read

Owners of the new iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max models are reporting crackling, popping, and clicking sounds from their device speakers. The issue appears inconsistently across various actions, and a recent iOS update did not resolve the problem.

Early adopters of Apple's latest flagship smartphones, the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, are encountering an unexpected problem: their device speakers are emitting unusual crackling, popping, and clicking noises. Reports of these audio anomalies are surfacing across various online platforms, including MacRumors forums, Reddit, and Apple's official Support Community.

Users Detail Inconsistent Audio Issues

The reported sounds are described as faint but noticeable, ranging from a subtle tick or pop to intermittent crackling. The issue appears to originate primarily from the earpiece speaker, affecting both the standard Pro and the larger Pro Max variants. Users have noted that the sounds manifest under a variety of circumstances, indicating an inconsistent trigger.

Some owners report hearing the noises during phone calls, while others experience them when the on-screen keyboard appears, upon closing pop-up alerts, during website scrolling, or simply when using various applications. Even actions like quickly adjusting screen brightness or toggling Airplane Mode have been cited as triggers by some users. One forum member even suggested that disabling keyboard clicks temporarily stopped the noise on their device.

iOS 27.0.1 Update Fails to Resolve Speaker Problem

Apple recently rolled out the iOS 27.0.1 update, released on September 28, which aimed to address several bugs, including unexpected restarts related to Face ID authentication failures, a camera color artifact, and an unresponsive touchscreen issue when Notification and Control Centers were accessed simultaneously. However, the update's release notes made no mention of speaker-related fixes.

Unfortunately, user feedback indicates that iOS 27.0.1 has not alleviated the crackling and popping sounds for affected iPhone 18 Pro owners. Some users have gone as far as exchanging their devices for new units, only to find the same audio behavior persisting on the replacements. This suggests the problem might be more widespread or deeply rooted than initially perceived.

Cause Remains Unconfirmed by Apple

As of now, the precise cause of the speaker issue remains unknown. While some users speculate it could be an iOS-related audio routing problem or a software bug, others fear it might stem from a hardware defect. Apple has not yet issued an official statement confirming the nature of the behavior, leaving many users awaiting a definitive solution.
