The National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), under India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), has partnered with Intel India to launch a significant new initiative: the India Agentic AI Skilling Initiative. Announced on September 3, 2026, this program aims to prepare India's workforce, including students, professionals, and educators, for the rapidly evolving landscape of agentic artificial intelligence.
Moving Beyond Generative AI
The initiative marks a strategic shift beyond traditional generative AI applications. Its core focus is to educate individuals on the effective utilization of AI agents and complex multi-agent systems. Unlike chatbots, agentic AI systems are designed to operate autonomously, taking charge of planning and execution across various tasks. This transition represents a crucial advancement in AI capabilities, enabling more sophisticated automation and decision-making.
Two Specialized Programs Offered
The India Agentic AI Skilling Initiative comprises two distinct programs tailored to different levels of expertise:
- Agentic AI for Everyone: This introductory course is designed to help a broad audience understand AI agents, workflow automation, and multi-agent systems. It emphasizes improving productivity, business efficiency, and decision-making through AI. Participants will gain hands-on experience in designing and governing AI-powered workflows and agentic systems using no-code platforms.
- Engineering Agentic AI Systems: For those seeking to delve deeper, this program offers in-depth knowledge for designing, building, and deploying advanced AI agents. Learners will receive practical training in both no-code/low-code tools and code-based frameworks, enabling them to develop customized AI solutions. The curriculum covers the entire lifecycle of an AI agent, including architecture, tool integration, orchestration, memory management, and deployment strategies.
Fostering India's AI Talent Hub
This collaboration between NIELIT and Intel India is set to expand access to industry-aligned, practical, and future-ready agentic AI learning across the country. The overarching goal is to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application, cultivating a skilled workforce capable of driving India's next phase of AI-led growth. Ultimately, the initiative seeks to establish India as a globally competitive hub for AI talent, bolstering its position in the international technology arena.
