Google is reintroducing a modern take on notification lights with HiLight, an innovative feature debuting on the new Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL. Designed to provide discreet visual alerts, HiLight aims to keep users connected without the constant distraction of checking their phone screen.
What is HiLight on Pixel 11 Pro?
HiLight utilizes RGB LEDs subtly integrated around the camera flash on the rear of the Pixel 11 Pro models. This strategic placement allows the lights to be visible even when the phone is placed face down, offering a quick glance at incoming information without needing to turn the device over.
How HiLight Works
The system is designed to communicate various phone activities through distinct colors and light patterns. For instance, when interacting with Google's Gemini AI, the HiLight LEDs can indicate whether Gemini is actively listening, processing a request, or formulating a response. This provides immediate feedback without requiring screen interaction.
Users can also personalize HiLight for important contacts. By assigning custom colors to specific callers, the LEDs can instantly identify who is calling, allowing users to prioritize or ignore calls without interrupting their current task. Google has confirmed that while the initial focus is on these core interactions, more capabilities, such as message notifications from favorite contacts, are planned for future updates.
Pixel 11 Pro Availability and Other Features
The Google Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro XL are now available for pre-order, with retail availability scheduled for August 20. The Pixel 11 Pro starts at approximately ₹1,19,999, while the Pixel 11 Pro XL begins at around ₹1,34,999.
Beyond the innovative HiLight system, these new Pro models boast significant hardware upgrades. They feature a brighter 3,600-nit display, enhanced camera systems with up to 120x Pro Zoom capabilities, and are powered by Google's latest Tensor G6 chip, promising improved performance and AI integration.
