Google's Gemini application, utilized by over 900 million users across 230 countries and 70 languages, has received a substantial update. The tech giant revealed at Google I/O 2026 that the app's user base has grown sevenfold in the past year, prompting a focus on a more refined and intelligent user experience as Google enters its “Agentic era.”
Enhanced User Experience
The Gemini app now features a completely redesigned user interface, dubbed “Neural Expressive design.” This overhaul introduces smooth animations, vibrant color palettes, updated typography, and haptic feedback to create a more engaging interaction. Google has also improved the microphone experience, enabling longer, uninterrupted voice conversations. The Gemini Live experience is now integrated directly into the app, allowing seamless transitions between text and voice. Furthermore, Gemini's responses will be more dynamic, incorporating interactive timelines, narrated videos, and rich graphics for clearer information delivery.
Powering the New Gemini
Underpinning these changes is the integration of Google’s new Gemini 3.5 Flash AI model. This model promises faster and more powerful AI capabilities, combining advanced intelligence with rapid action to enhance the app's performance across various tasks.
Advanced AI Capabilities
The update brings several new agentic AI tools designed to make Gemini a more proactive and integrated personal assistant:
- Gemini Omni: This new AI video generation model is now accessible within the Gemini app. It allows users to create high-quality videos using a combination of text, image, and existing video inputs. This feature is rolling out to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers globally.
- Daily Brief: A new AI agent that provides users with a personalized morning summary. Daily Brief works across connected apps, gathering and organizing relevant information such as schedules, updates, reminders, news, emails, and tasks into a concise digest. This feature is currently rolling out in the U.S.
- Gemini Spark: Google is also integrating Gemini Spark, a 24/7 personal AI agent, into the app. Spark connects with workspace tools like Gmail, Docs, and Slides to execute directed workflows and tasks on the user’s behalf, streamlining productivity.
These updates mark a significant step in Google’s vision for AI, moving towards more intelligent and integrated digital assistance within the Gemini ecosystem.
