Google has unveiled Nano Banana 2 Lite, a new artificial intelligence model designed for ultra-fast image generation, alongside expanded access to Gemini Omni Flash for video creation and editing. This strategic release aims to empower developers with high-speed, cost-effective tools for demanding AI workflows.
Nano Banana 2 Lite: Speed and Affordability for Developers
Positioned as the quickest model in the Nano Banana family, Nano Banana 2 Lite (internally known as gemini-3.1-flash-lite-image) generates 1K-resolution images in a remarkable four seconds. Google designed this model specifically for high-volume creative workflows where low latency and operating costs are paramount, making it ideal for rapid prototyping, visual brainstorming, and large-batch image production.
The model is priced at an economical $0.034 per 1K-resolution image, establishing it as the most budget-friendly option within the Nano Banana suite for developers managing extensive workloads. Despite its emphasis on speed, Google assures robust prompt adherence, consistent character generation across images, and clear, readable text within outputs.
Nano Banana 2 Lite is now available via Google AI Studio, the Gemini API, and the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform. It is also being rolled out across various consumer services, including AI Mode in Search, the Gemini app, NotebookLM, Google Photos, Google Flow, Stitch, and Google Ads.
Integrating with Gemini Omni Flash for Video Creation
Complementing Nano Banana 2 Lite, Google has broadened public preview access to Gemini Omni Flash through Google AI Studio and the Gemini API. This multimodal model facilitates high-quality video generation and conversational editing, accepting text, images, and video as inputs.
Gemini Omni Flash enables users to refine videos through natural language prompts, ensuring consistency across multiple edits and supporting multimodal referencing for more accurate results. Developers can leverage Nano Banana 2 Lite to generate initial images, then seamlessly feed these into Gemini Omni Flash to produce short videos. Currently, Omni Flash generates videos up to 10 seconds long, with future updates planned to support longer durations and additional features like audio reference uploads and scene extension. The model is priced at $0.10 per second of generated video.
A Tiered AI Image Generation Ecosystem
Google maintains a comprehensive AI image generation ecosystem. While Nano Banana 2 Lite excels in ultra-fast, high-volume tasks, Nano Banana 2 (Gemini 3.1 Flash Image) serves as the all-round model. For premium workloads demanding greater reasoning, precision, and creative control, developers can opt for Nano Banana Pro (Gemini 3 Pro Image).
