This phenomenon stems from a historical workforce pyramid model, designed for sustained annual growth exceeding 20%. With growth rates now in single digits, this structure becomes unsustainable, leading to a "bloated" middle layer.

He predicts a future organizational model resembling a diamond, where the middle tier primarily comprises specialists. To mitigate the adverse effects of these retrenchments, companies must prioritize re-orientation and re-skilling initiatives for their existing workforce.
