Facebook's 'Your Algorithm' AI Gives Users More Control Over Feed & Reels

· · 2 min read

Meta introduces "Your Algorithm," an AI-powered tool allowing Facebook users to directly customize their Feed and Reels recommendations. Users can now use natural language to tell the platform what content they want to see more or less of, shaping their experience.

Meta is rolling out a significant update to Facebook, empowering users with greater control over the content they see in their Feed and Reels. The new AI-powered feature, dubbed “Your Algorithm,” allows individuals to directly communicate their preferences to the platform, moving beyond solely automated recommendation systems.

How 'Your Algorithm' Transforms Content Curation

Traditionally, Facebook's algorithms have determined what posts, videos, and creators users might like based on engagement patterns. With "Your Algorithm," this process becomes more interactive. Users can now express their interests and desired topics using freeform text, rather than just preset options like "Interested" or "Not interested."

Meta states this feature acts as a "dedicated space to tell us exactly what you’re into." By leveraging large language models (LLMs), the system can understand the context, intent, and nuances of natural language input, making recommendations more relevant and responsive over time.

Directly Shape Your Feed

  • Conversational Input: Users can type out what they like or dislike about content.
  • Topic Management: Directly add and manage specific topics they wish to see in Feed and Reels.
  • Accessibility: Customization options are accessible via the updated three-dot menu on any post.

This evolution in ranking signifies a shift towards a more personalized and user-driven content experience on Facebook. The company has previously implemented similar features, with Instagram's "Your Algorithm" launching in June 2025 and Threads offering a comparable "Dear Algo" tool for feed customization.

"This marks a real evolution in how ranking works: by bringing freeform text together with everything we already understand about what you enjoy, the algorithms behind your Feed and Reels keep getting more relevant and responsive over time." - Meta

The update aims to provide a more intuitive and effective way for users to fine-tune their social media experience, giving them a direct voice in what content algorithms prioritize.
