Dyson Enters Oral Care with AI-Powered CameraJet

Dyson has expanded its innovative technology portfolio into oral care with the global launch of the CameraJet electric toothbrush. This new device aims to revolutionize daily brushing routines by addressing the common challenge of cleaning difficult-to-reach spaces between teeth, where plaque often accumulates and hardens over time.

After six years of extensive research and development, Dyson brings together advanced imaging, machine learning, precision fluid dynamics, and sophisticated brushing technology into a single, connected dental system. The CameraJet is designed to identify problematic areas and streamline multiple oral hygiene steps into one efficient routine.

AI-Powered Gap Detection and Targeting

At the heart of the CameraJet is a 100,000-pixel macro lens camera, making it the only toothbrush currently on the market with this feature. Utilizing "Gap Optical Targeting" and machine learning algorithms, the camera scans 28 live images per second. This real-time analysis allows the device to identify, track, and predict the precise location of gaps between teeth.

Crucially, within just 100 milliseconds of detecting a gap, the CameraJet activates a precision conical burst of mouthrinse. This targeted delivery ensures that the cleaning solution reaches exactly where it's needed, combating plaque formation effectively. The system operates on 16 million lines of code and was trained using over 470,000 dental images to ensure accuracy and efficacy.

Precision Fluid Dynamics for Gentle Cleaning

Unlike traditional water flossers that often use needle-type jets, the Dyson CameraJet employs a broad conical spray. Dyson's testing, utilizing a proprietary proxy plaque, indicates that this wider jet can sweep away plaque more efficiently while operating at a lower pressure. This design choice aims to be gentler on gums and tooth enamel, enhancing user comfort without compromising cleaning performance.

The device features a 12.5ml anti-gravity tank, ensuring consistent and controlled jet delivery regardless of the toothbrush's orientation—whether upright, angled, or horizontal—providing a reliable clean in any position.

Advanced Brushing and Connectivity

Beyond its innovative jet system, the CameraJet incorporates advanced sonic brushing technology. Its dual-bristle head combines firmer inner bristles to tackle surface stains with softer outer bristles designed to clean the gumline. Variable sonic oscillation is integrated to prevent bristle stalling, ensuring continuous and effective cleaning. External testing cited by Dyson suggests the CameraJet can remove up to 69% more plaque in hard-to-reach areas compared to leading premium electric toothbrushes.

For a comprehensive oral care experience, the CameraJet connects via Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to the MyDyson app. This companion app offers live viewing of the brushing process, guided cleaning sessions, coverage mapping to ensure no spot is missed, and personalized feedback. Dyson emphasizes that images are not recorded or stored on the device or in the cloud, prioritizing user privacy.

Global Rollout Commences

The Dyson Dental System, including the CameraJet, is currently being rolled out in designated markets worldwide. Details regarding its availability and specific release plans for countries like India are expected to be shared closer to the product's local launch.
