Apple's September 9 Event: iPhone 18 Pro, Foldable iPhone, Watch Updates Expected

· · 3 min read

Apple's September 9 event could unveil the iPhone 18 Pro, a new foldable iPhone, and Apple Watch Series 12. Incoming CEO John Ternus is set to lead the major product presentation.

Apple is preparing for its familiar September product launch window on September 9, an event that could introduce significant shifts across its hardware lineup. This showcase is anticipated to feature new devices in the iPhone, Apple Watch, and smart-home categories, potentially redefining how Apple approaches its smartphone releases.

The upcoming "Surprise and shine" event will mark the first major product presentation led by incoming CEO John Ternus, who assumes the role from Tim Cook on September 1. While the presentation is expected to maintain Apple's polished prerecorded format, selected media will gather at Apple Park to experience the new products firsthand. The event is scheduled for 10 am Pacific Time (1 pm Eastern Time) and will be streamable via YouTube, Apple's event page, and the Apple TV app.

iPhone 18 Pro and the Debut of a Foldable iPhone

A primary focus of the September launch is expected to be the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Apple is reportedly planning to segment the iPhone 18 series across multiple launch events, making the Pro models the stars of this initial showcase.

  • iPhone 18 Pro Series: These models are rumored to retain a design similar to the iPhone 17 Pro but with a slightly larger camera bump and a potential new dark cherry finish. Under-display Face ID is also a strong possibility. The iPhone 18 Pro Max might exclusively feature a variable-aperture camera. Both Pro models are expected to integrate the new A20 Pro chip and a C2 modem. Due to rising component costs, the iPhone 18 Pro could see a price increase of up to $300 compared to its predecessor.
  • Foldable iPhone: Perhaps the most anticipated announcement is Apple's first foldable smartphone, potentially named iPhone Fold or iPhone Ultra. Rumors suggest it will feature a 7.8-inch internal display and a 5.3-inch outer screen. Specifications could include 12GB of RAM, an A20 Pro chip, and a dual 48MP rear camera system. Pricing for this innovative device might range between $2,000 and $2,500, with initial availability possibly limited.

Apple Watch, Home Products, and iPad Mini Updates

Beyond the iPhones, Apple is expected to introduce updates to its wearable and smart home ecosystems:

  • Apple Watch: The Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 are anticipated. These new models could feature enhanced health sensors and a redesigned band attachment system.
  • Home Products: Refreshes for Apple TV and the HomePod mini are also on the horizon, likely incorporating newer chips to bolster Siri AI capabilities. Additionally, a new seven-inch Home Hub, designed for FaceTime calls and comprehensive smart-home controls, might be unveiled.
  • iPad Mini 8: The next iteration of the iPad mini, the iPad mini 8, is rumored to sport an 8.4-inch hybrid OLED display and an A20 chip.

While AirPods Pro updates are possible later in the year, camera-equipped AirPods are considered more likely for a 2027 release.
