Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 & Mythos 5 Cleared by US for Global Rollout July 1

· · 2 min read

The US Department of Commerce has cleared Anthropic's advanced AI models, Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5, for global rollout starting July 1. This follows a two-week restriction due to national security concerns, now lifted after safeguards were implemented.

Anthropic, a leading AI research company, has received clearance from the U.S. Department of Commerce to proceed with the global rollout of its powerful AI models, Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5. Access to these models will begin worldwide today, July 1, after a temporary halt imposed by the US government.

Export Controls Lifted After National Security Review

Initially, following their release, Anthropic had voluntarily halted global access to these models in response to an order from the U.S. government. The government had imposed these restrictions, citing national security concerns, which required Anthropic to block access for all foreign nationals, regardless of their location.

Anthropic confirmed the lifting of these export controls via an X (formerly Twitter) post, expressing gratitude to users for their patience and to those who collaborated on redeploying the models. The company stated this marks an important step toward making its newest AI capabilities available globally.

Safeguards Implemented

The decision to lift the restrictions comes shortly after US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick authorized Anthropic to release Mythos 5 to a select group of companies and federal agencies. According to a CNBC report, Lutnick indicated in a letter that Anthropic had implemented “appropriate safeguards” to allow access for these “trusted partners.” Lutnick also posted on X, noting close collaboration with Anthropic to analyze and approve Fable 5, ensuring alignment across the US government and strengthening America’s leadership in AI.

This move by the US government reflects a broader initiative to enhance oversight of advanced AI systems. Notably, similar safety checks were also conducted for OpenAI’s GPT 5.6 model before its public release.

Global Availability Details

Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 is set to roll out globally today, July 1. It will be accessible to users across the Claude Platform, Claude.ai, Claude Code, and Claude Cowork. For subscribers on Pro, Max, Team, and specific Enterprise plans, Fable 5 will be included for up to 50% of weekly usage limits through July 7, after which it will transition to usage credits. The models are also expected to become available on major cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Foundry in the coming days.
