Adidas Clarifies India Tech Hub Layoffs: Under 20% Impact, Not 50%

· · 2 min read

Adidas has refuted media reports claiming 50% job cuts at its India Technology Hub in Gurugram, stating that less than 20% of its tech workforce was affected. The company indicated these changes aim to streamline operations and strengthen capabilities for long-term success.

Adidas has officially denied media reports suggesting a 50% reduction in its workforce at the India Technology Hub located in Gurugram. In a statement, the global sportswear giant clarified that while organizational changes did result in job reductions, the impact affected less than 20% of its technology team in India.

Strategic Realignment Cited for Workforce Changes

The company explained that these adjustments are part of ongoing efforts to align its operating model with evolving business needs. Adidas aims to simplify parts of its organization, bolster critical capabilities, and strategically position itself for sustained success in a rapidly changing business and technology landscape.

“These changes are intended to simplify parts of our organization, strengthen critical capabilities, and position adidas for long-term success in a rapidly evolving business and technology environment,” the statement read.

Impacted Roles and Employee Support

Reports from Wocult indicated that roles most affected included software engineers, data scientists, and data engineers. Employees were reportedly informed of the layoffs during a town hall meeting on September 15. While some received exit letters on the same day, others were asked to continue until December to facilitate handovers to other tech hubs, with December 15 being the final working day for those unable to secure new roles within the company.

Adidas emphasized its commitment to supporting affected employees with care, respect, and appropriate transition assistance. The company also noted that it has several open roles across the organization and encourages impacted staff to explore these internal opportunities.

India remains a strategically vital market for Adidas, and its Technology Hub is expected to continue playing a crucial role in the company's growth, innovation, and digital transformation ambitions.
