Former Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Lalit Modi has made a heartwarming gesture to a young cricket fan, Yugveer Budhiraja, who was left devastated after being unable to secure an autograph from his idol, Virat Kohli, during an IPL match.
The incident, which quickly went viral on social media, showed Yugveer repeatedly attempting to approach Kohli with a bat for an autograph. However, security personnel prevented the young fan from getting close, leading to Yugveer breaking down in tears out of disappointment.
Modi's Heartfelt Response
Lalit Modi revealed that the viral video deeply affected him. "I saw a heartbreaking clip a few days ago where Virat Kohli was walking out of the hotel with a security detail, and there was a little kid out there who wanted his autograph signed with his bat, and the security pushed him aside, and it broke the kid's heart, and he threw the bat down, and that broke my heart," Modi stated.
Moved by Yugveer's distress, Modi instructed his team to locate the young fan. After successfully connecting with him, Modi personally reached out to Yugveer via a video call.
A Special Cricket Souvenir
During their interaction, Modi promised Yugveer a truly unique piece of cricket memorabilia: a bat from the inaugural IPL season, signed by all the players from that edition, including Virat Kohli. Modi confirmed, "I will send him a Season 1 bat signed by every player, which includes Virat Kohli’s signature as well." The special gift is set to be personally delivered to Yugveer in Delhi.
Yugveer later shared details of the video call on his social media, expressing immense excitement and gratitude for Modi's unexpected and generous gesture. He described the call as one of the most memorable moments of his life.
The gesture has garnered widespread praise from cricket enthusiasts online, who have applauded Modi for creating a lasting positive memory for a young fan and demonstrating the impact influential figures can have within the sport.
