The highly anticipated third installment of the popular horror-comedy franchise, Stree 3, is officially slated for a 2028 theatrical release. Producer Dinesh Vijan confirmed the updated timeline during the 26th edition of FICCI Frames, sharing key details about the film's development.
Vijan revealed that director Amar Kaushik has completed writing the script for Stree 3, teasing a potentially shocking storyline. While an exact release date within 2028 has not been announced, Vijan hinted at a possible Independence Day or Christmas window. Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor are expected to reprise their leading roles, continuing the beloved on-screen pairing.
Reason for the Delay
Initially, Stree 3 was projected for an August 2027 release. The shift in schedule stems from director Amar Kaushik's commitment to another significant project, Mahavatar. This mythological drama, based on the story of Bhagwan Parshuram and starring Vicky Kaushal, will be Kaushik's next directorial venture. He is expected to complete Mahavatar before commencing production on Stree 3, with filming for the horror-comedy anticipated to begin towards the end of 2027.
Expanding a Popular Horror-Comedy Universe
The original Stree, released in 2018, was a critical and commercial success, featuring Rajkummar Rao, Shraddha Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee. Its popularity paved the way for Maddock Films to establish a broader horror-comedy universe, which includes other successful titles such as Roohi, Bhediya, and Munjya. The second installment, Stree 2, further solidified the franchise's standing among Hindi film audiences, making the upcoming Stree 3 a much-awaited addition.
