Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly has shared his enthusiasm for his highly anticipated biopic, Dada – The Sourav Ganguly Story. Set to bring his illustrious life and career to the big screen, Ganguly confirmed his excitement, stating he is not nervous about seeing his journey retold.
Speaking recently, Ganguly revealed that he took five years to agree to the project, emphasizing the careful consideration he gave to the cinematic retelling of his life. He anticipates the film will be “about cricket, my life, my growing up days. So, it’ll be fun.”
Rajkummar Rao to Portray 'Dada'
The biopic, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, will feature acclaimed actor Rajkummar Rao in the lead role as Sourav Ganguly. When asked about Rao’s portrayal, Ganguly expressed confidence, saying, “I think he’ll do a great job.” He added that his extensive cricketing career has instilled a strong mindset, leaving no room for nervousness about the film.
Mumbai: A City of Cricketing Milestones
Ganguly also reflected on his deep connection with Mumbai, a city he describes as a cricketing landmark. He recalled significant career moments, including crucial Ranji Trophy games and memorable Test hundreds that shaped India’s fortunes. Beyond cricket, Mumbai holds nostalgic food memories for Ganguly, who fondly remembers eating vada pav and pani puri at Chowpatty, alongside praising the city’s seafood.
Life Beyond the Pitch
While the biopic focuses on his cricketing legacy, Ganguly remains active in various fields post-retirement. He continues to serve as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal and actively promotes Indian football, advocating for international exposure for local players. He has also ventured into television as the host of Bigg Boss Bangla Season 3, embracing it as a new challenge. However, he firmly stated that he has no plans to pursue acting in films himself.
