Bollywood actor Shreyas Talpade has shared a heartwarming anecdote about how superstar Shah Rukh Khan's generosity played a pivotal role in him acquiring his first home. Talpade recounted that a personal letter from Khan to a bank was instrumental in securing a much-needed home loan, a detail he disclosed during a conversation with filmmaker Farah Khan.
The Loan Dilemma and SRK's Timely Intervention
Talpade explained that despite his burgeoning career, he initially faced an obstacle when applying for a home loan. The bank deemed him ineligible, prompting an inquiry into his current projects. Upon learning he was starring alongside Shah Rukh Khan in Farah Khan's highly anticipated 2007 film, Om Shanti Om, the bank official suggested obtaining a letter from the prominent figures involved.
“At that time I wasn't eligible for a loan,” Talpade recalled. “The banker asked me which other films I was doing, and I told her Om Shanti Om. She asked, ‘Who is in it?’ I said, ‘Shah Rukh Khan.’ Then she asked who the director was, and I said, ‘Farah Khan.’ She asked if I could get a letter from them.”
Talpade promptly contacted Farah Khan, who, within two days, facilitated a letter from Shah Rukh Khan to the bank. This swift action proved to be a game-changer. “That very evening, my loan was sanctioned, and we could finally afford the house,” Talpade stated, emphasizing the immediate impact of Khan's support. Farah Khan, surprisingly, admitted she had no recollection of the incident, expressing her delight at the outcome.
Om Shanti Om: A Turning Point
The opportunity to star in Om Shanti Om came nearly 12 years into Talpade's acting journey and significantly altered his financial prospects, making him eligible for the loan. Farah Khan also shared her initial hesitation in casting Talpade, who had just delivered a critically acclaimed lead performance in the film Iqbal. She worried about offering him a supporting role in Om Shanti Om, but ultimately recognized the pivotal nature of the character.
During the film's production, both Talpade and Shah Rukh Khan were known for their improvisational skills on set. Farah Khan fondly remembered moments where their spontaneous creativity led to extensive scene alterations, sometimes requiring her intervention to ensure adherence to the script.
Shah Rukh Khan's Enduring Generosity
This incident is not an isolated example of Shah Rukh Khan's magnanimity. Farah Khan also highlighted another instance where Khan waived a substantial fee for the Marathi film Deool Band, accepting only a fraction of the amount owed. She further recounted how Khan took over 50 team members, including assistant directors, music directors, and the cinematographer, to the premiere of Happy New Year in Dubai, showcasing his commitment to those he works with. These stories underscore Khan's reputation for looking after his colleagues and collaborators in the industry.
