Salman Khan's 'Maatrubhumi' Faces Delay, Not Yet Submitted to CBFC

· · 2 min read

Salman Khan's upcoming film, 'Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace,' is reportedly facing significant delays and has not yet been submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The project previously underwent a title change and content adjustments due to public dissent and government recommendations regarding references to China and the Galwan Valley.

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan's highly anticipated film, 'Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace,' is reportedly encountering substantial hurdles, leading to a significant delay in its release. According to recent reports, the movie has not even been submitted to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) for clearance, casting doubt on its future.

Originally titled 'Maatrubhumi: Battle of Galwan,' the project first faced public outcry and received informal advice from government officials to remove all mentions of China and the Galwan Valley from its narrative. This led to a title change on March 16, rebranding the film to its current 'Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace.'

Content Adjustments and Unclear Conflict

The controversy surrounding the initial trailer prompted filmmakers to rethink the movie's direction. While the film has not been entirely rewritten or reshot, the team has incorporated additional sequences focusing on family dynamics and romantic subplots involving supporting characters. This shift aims to reposition the film as a human drama.

However, the report highlights a central challenge: with references to China and the Galwan conflict removed, the core conflict of the war portions that have been retained remains ambiguous. Sources suggest the production team is actively grappling with how to effectively convey the narrative's central conflict without these specific geopolitical elements.

Release Date in Limbo

Initially slated for an April release, the film was postponed due to these ongoing issues. A new official release date has not been announced, further indicating the complexities behind the scenes. Although there's an unconfirmed expectation for the film to hit theaters around August, its current status with the CBFC suggests a longer road ahead.

Neither the Ministry of Defence, the Army, nor the CBFC has yet reviewed the film, indicating that crucial steps for its smooth release are still pending as the team works to navigate the necessary changes.
