· · 2 min read

Cibi Chakravarthi has reportedly exited Rajinikanth's 'Thalaivar 173' due to scheduling conflicts. Director Ashwath Marimuthu, known for 'Oh My Kadavule', is now rumored to take over the much-anticipated project, produced by Kamal Haasan.

Superstar Rajinikanth's upcoming film, tentatively titled 'Thalaivar 173', is reportedly undergoing another significant change in its directorial lineup. Director Cibi Chakravarthi, who was previously announced to helm the project, has now exited, with Ashwath Marimuthu rumored to be stepping in.

Cibi Chakravarthi Exits Amid Scheduling Conflicts

According to recent reports from Zee News, Cibi Chakravarthi has withdrawn from 'Thalaivar 173'. His departure is attributed to prior commitments and scheduling conflicts. Chakravarthi had previously impressed the production team with his story concept and was officially brought on board, with plans for the film to commence after Rajinikanth completes 'Jailer 2'. He had publicly expressed enthusiasm for creating a full entertainer for Rajinikanth's fanbase.

A History of Directorial Shifts

This is not the first directorial change for the highly anticipated 'Thalaivar 173'. Initially, popular filmmaker Sundar C was announced as the director, only to step away shortly after. The producers then embarked on a search for a new director, considering various story ideas before settling on Cibi Chakravarthi. With Chakravarthi's recent exit, the project once again faces uncertainty regarding its creative leadership, sparking considerable discussion within the Tamil film industry.

Ashwath Marimuthu Emerges as New Frontrunner

The latest buzz suggests that director Ashwath Marimuthu is now the leading candidate to take the reins of 'Thalaivar 173'. Marimuthu is recognized for his successful films such as 'Oh My Kadavule' and 'Dragon'. Interestingly, Marimuthu had previously pitched a story to Rajinikanth when the production was searching for a director following Sundar C's initial exit. While Rajinikanth reportedly liked Marimuthu's concept at the time, the team ultimately proceeded with Cibi Chakravarthi. With the recent developments, the opportunity seems to have resurfaced for Marimuthu.

High Expectations for the Rajinikanth-Kamal Haasan Collaboration

'Thalaivar 173' is set to be produced on a grand scale by Kamal Haasan's Raaj Kamal Films International. The collaboration between two legends of Tamil cinema, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, has already set fan expectations exceptionally high. An official announcement regarding the new director is anticipated soon, as discussions are reportedly underway.
